Elvesaeter
day 11 - wednesday, july 15, 2015
Today we are headed to the Elvesaeter Hotel located in Giant's Country in the mountains for a one night stay. Along the way we will stop in Lillehammer to visit the Maihaugen Open-Air Folk museum. The next stop is the Lom Stave Church. Finally, we reach our Elvesaeter Hotel where we have a group dinner.
The first stop of the day was the Maihaugen Open-Air Folk Museum. This open-air museum provides a view of what you'll see as you drive through the Gudbrandsdal Valley. The museum was started in 1887 by Anders Sandvig, a dentist. The outdoor section consists of three sections: the "Rural Collection" with sod-roof log houses and a stave church; the "Town Collection" with reconstructed pieces of old-time Lillehammer; and the "Residential Collection" with 20th-century houses that look like most homes in Norway today. Below are a few pictures of our visit to "Rural Collection" of the Museum.

The next stop is the Lom Stave Church. This church is from 1158 and remains one of the most striking examples of a Nordic stave church.
Now it is on to our final destination which is the Elvesaeter Hotel in the Jotunheimen Mountains. When we arrived we had a group dinner. In the morning, a few of the group did a hike up an old trail in the mountains. Below are some pictures of the Elvesaeter Hotel and hiking.
After the hike, we boarded the bus and headed to Bergen.
